General Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation of the library, including its internal operations, its educational programs, and its services to staff, faculty and students.
  • Design and maintain a system for circulation and utilization of instructional materials.
  • Plan and operate a program for the selection and acquisition of new materials and oversee collection development with a focus on electronic collections and resources.
  • Oversee the operation of the Academy Archives.
  • Design and install exhibits to showcase collections, archive materials or other relevant materials.
  • Oversee the operation of the technical Service Desk.
  • Develop and implement programs and initiatives to increase the annual number and variety of patrons utilizing library collections and resources.
  • Maintain an on-line presence for the library which is current and up-to-date and can be used to market the services and resources of the library.
  • Work closely with faculty to develop outreach programs to support learning and research projects.
  • Prepare budgets, administer library funds, and report on expenditures.
  • Maintain standards of performance for personnel assigned to the library, including the provision for annual evaluations. 
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures, strategic plans, goals and objectives.
  • Participate in student orientation programs, convocations, commencement, and other related activities of the Academy.
  • Serve on Academy-related boards, councils, and/or committees, as appropriate.
  • Maintain knowledge of accreditation standards pertaining to the library.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Technology and Library Services.

 

Qualifications and Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Library or Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years of significant administrative and supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong experience with the selection, implementation, and maintenance of library collections with an emphasis on curriculum-driven collection development.
  • Experience with library automation and computer applications, including integrated library systems (ILS) and services.
  • A working knowledge of digital scanning and on-line access to archival/library resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and to collaborate with faculty, staff and students to help maintain a library that is the academic centerpiece of the campus community.
  • Thorough knowledge of current library practices and procedures in institutions of higher education and knowledge of emerging library trends.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills and the ability to work with all levels of an organization.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:  Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of gross motor skills to perform supervisory and organizational duties; use of fine motor skills to operate computer; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear, and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  Minimum of five years of higher education library experience in a library management role.
  • Experience managing and acquiring electronic resources.
  • Record of scholarly publications (i.e., authored journal articles, conference papers, books, etc.) and service to the profession.

Salary

$72,000- $78,000 annually
