General Responsibilities

Duties: Instruct college-level Marine Transportation courses. Preferred specializations include navigation, ship-handling and shipboard safety, seamanship, and watchstanding. Potential courses taught may include Vessel Familiarization, Rules of the Road, Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA), Deep Sea Navigation Lab, Advanced Seamanship. Massachusetts Maritime Academy follows a "Learn-Do-Learn” model, where our hands-on simulation labs and classroom experiences enable our students to "apply" textbook knowledge in the field.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Transportation or related field; Masters Preferred
- Hold a Third Mate license with current Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) qualifications.
- Have at least three years of professional maritime experience
- Possess an understanding of teaching in the university setting
- Exhibit excellent oral and written communications skills
- Understand the unique mission of the university as a maritime academy
Preferred Qualifications
- Have at least three years of maritime experience or teaching experience at an accredited institution of higher learning
