Massachusetts Maritime Academy - About Us Disability Resources - About Us
Massachusetts Maritime Academy is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities. The Director of Disability Compliance works in collaboration with faculty and other campus departments to provide support for students with disabilities. This coordination of efforts complies with the mandates of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Once a Voluntary Disclosure Form is filed, a professional evaluation of the specific disability performed within three years of MMA enrollment must be submitted by the student. The documentation required can be found under "DR Links" (an IEP is not sufficient).  A support services plan is then developed. Depending upon the nature of the disability, students may be eligible for one or more of the following accommodations:
  • Extended time for quizzes and tests (not to exceed time and ½)
  • Reduced distraction room for testing
  • Use of tape recorder for lectures
  • Text books on tape
  • Computer use
Reasonable accommodations will be granted to a student provided the accommodation does not substantially alter the fundamental nature of the academic class or program. The Disability Compliance Office works interactively with Faculty and Deans to ensure equal access to a quality Massachusetts Maritime Academy education for all students. For additional information, please call Dr. Fran Tishkevich, Disability Compliance Officer, at (508) 830-5000 x 2208. Email: ftishkevich@maritime.edu
