Successfully Completing the ALEKS Option

The ALEKS Program

Your score of less than 40 indicates that there are gaps in your quantitative reasoning skills and you are not prepared for college-level mathematics. If you do not opt to take a college course in Intermediate Algebra before attending MMA, you are urged to complete the online ALEKS program, "MMA Prep for Algebra/Trig Summer 2018".

If you select this option, you will need to purchase a subscription to ALEKS, a self-paced computer tutorial program. The course has been designed to meet the needs of underprepared students who will be enrolled in Algebra and Trigonometry during their first semester at MMA. Participation in the ALEKS tutorial program does not lead to any course advancement, nor does it provide course credit. It does, however, provide you with the mathematics skills required for success in Algebra and Trigonometry, a foundational course that must be passed to continue at MMA.

You will need to complete the course AND successfully complete the “Goal Completion Assessment” given at the end of the ALEKS Program (after demonstrating mastery of all 148 topics).

You are allowed unlimited hours to complete the ALEKS program. However, the subscription you purchase is for a six-week program.  If you do not complete ALEKS within the six weeks, you may purchase another six-week subscription and continue your work.

All work must be completed by August 8, 2017. The deadline will not be extended.

Important Note: All assessments are to be done without assistance. You are not permitted to seek the help of tutors, mathematics coaches, friends, etc. In addition, the first assessment must be completed without use of a calculator.
