Overview:

This operation and maintenance function is responsible for the proper operations of the gas and steam turbines, once thru heat recovery steam generators, maintenance of this equipment and monitoring the status of all the power plant systems from either the field or from the DCS on a continuous basis. The Operations Technician responds to abnormal plant conditions by taking appropriate corrective actions. The Ops Tech will execute plant shut-down and start-up in addition to conducting maintenance procedures as required. The Ops Tech assures that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating in a safe and efficient manner reporting directly to his/her immediate control room operator.

Responsibilities:

Operate and maintain the facility in the control room or field, optimizing plant performance through established procedures.
Work with team members to meet the facilities established safety, environmental, operating and maintenance goals and objectives. ]Perform operational activities required to support start-up, shutdown and normal operation of plant equipment and systems.
Perform assigned preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, emergency maintenance and inspection of plant mechanical and electrical equipment as needed.
Actively participate in the behaviour-based safety program and ensure every team member complies with all safety procedures and applicable task-oriented job safety analyses.
Perform all duties and responsibilities assigned by the immediate control room operator to this position, but not specifically stated in this description.
Demonstrated ability to work and support teams as both a leader and participating member.
Carries out other duties as assigned by plant management.​

Requirements:

High school graduate, GED, trade school graduate, military service, technical training school graduate or college graduate
Preferred-US Naval, Maritime or technical school trained
Preferred-Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Marine, Facilities, etc.)
Thorough understanding and a working knowledge of operations & maintenance of a gas turbine power plant.
A working knowledge of water chemistry as it relates to water treatment programs, steam plant operations as well as environmental and statutory regulations.
Knowledge of power plant safety, policies and procedures, especially in area such as chemical handling, high-energy systems, lockout tag-out, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, and heavy equipment
Must be able to demonstrate the ability to operate the plant from the field and from the control room, as well as the ability to analyze complex problems under the pressure of emergency conditions.
Ability to work a rotating day and night shift schedule that will include working holidays, overtime and planned and unplanned outages support.
