Assistant Plant Manager: ecomaine, a municipally owned organization with over 70 member Cities and Towns is currently seeking an Assistant Plant Manager to join their team. ecomaine owns and operates a waste-to-energy power plant, a recycling facility, and a landfill and serves the waste management and recycling needs for the Greater Portland, Maine Region.

The Assistant Plant Manager is responsible for assisting the Plant Manager with all aspects of ecomaine’s waste-to-energy facility; developing, implementing, and managing operations, maintenance, and safety procedures to maintain compliance with Federal and State regulatory agencies, local laws, regulations, and ordinances.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists Plant Manager with operations, maintenance, and capital projects including evaluation, procurement, budgets, and timelines.
  • Responsible for professional development of operating and maintenance staff and provides annual performance evaluations and feedback to team members.
  • Ensures proper recordkeeping of maintenance activities and operational performance.
  • Prepares reports on plant maintenance and operating performance.
  • Responsible for keeping the waste-to-energy facility up to date and current with best practices.
  • Observes, reports out and evaluates on plant operations, key data points, maintenance, and performance.
  • Assesses the maintenance needs of the facility and equipment and directs maintenance repairs and replacement in compliance with state and federal laws, rules and pressure vessel codes.
  • Coordinates and manages equipment and facility inspections and repairs.
  • Responsible for the proper maintenance and upkeep of ecomaine’s equipment, facilities and systems including electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, pollution control, rolling stock, grounds, pressure vessels and power piping.
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the waste receiving activities in compliance with state and federal environmental and safety regulations.
  • Maintains and administers Safety Programs and systems at all ecomaine facilities.
  • Prepares, schedules, and maintains documentation of operational training activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a combination of 5-10 years’ experience in the field is required
  • ASME QRO Site Specific License and 1st Class State of Maine Boiler Engineers License must be obtained within two years
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with large teams preferred
  • Prior experience in the Waste-to-Energy field (or similar) is preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of power plant systems
  • Knowledge of safety programs in an industrial environment required
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local safety programs and regulations required
  • Proven ability to multitask
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Proven leader, motivator, clear communicator and team player
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present material effectively; both in written and verbally
  • Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products and strong computer skills
  • Valid State of Maine driver’s license and current insurance is required and must be insurable under company policy.
