Engineering Sea Bag Requirements 2019

The tools, books, and safety equipment listed below are requirements for all engineering cadets including all 4/C cadets participating in the 2019 Sea Term.

Safety Equipment required for all Classes

  • Steel Toed Shoes or Boots
  • Boiler Suit with long sleeves
  • Hearing protection with a noise reduction rating of (NRR-22) or higher. Ear muffs are required in the Engine room.
  • Safety Glasses meeting the ANSI Z87.1-2003 standard with clear lenses. No colored lenses are allowed in the Engineering labs or in the Engine room.
  • Safety Goggles meeting the ANSI Z87.1-2003
  • Hard Hat color coded to class
  • Leather work gloves
  • Flashlights (2) Plastic medium size equivalent Pelican type xenon or LED flashlights. Small size, mini size, and metal flashlights are not acceptable for engineering work.
  • Extra Batteries and bulbs for flashlights

  • Introduction to Steam Engineering

Books: 3/C

  • In addition to above
  • Engineering Training Manual
  • Auxiliary Machinery - U.S. Department of Energy
     

Books: 1/C, 2/C and 3/C

  • In addition to above
  • Marine Engineering Workbooks
     

Tools: All 4/C

  • One Adjustable Wrench, 6 or 8”
  • One Adjustable Tongue and Groove Plier, 6 or 8”
  • One 6 in 1 Screwdriver
  • One Jackknife (no sheath knives)
     

Tools: 1/C, 2/C and 3/C

  • One Adjustable Wrench, 6 or 8”
  • One Adjustable Tongue and Groove Plier, 6 or 8”
  • One 6 in 1 screwdriver containing 2 sizes each of flatheads, Phillips head, and nut drivers.
  • A standard box-open end wrench wrap with varying sizes from 1/4" up to 7/8"
  • Note: Tool boxes (metal or plastic) are not authorized.
