The mission of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Engineering Department is to prepare graduates for careers as engineers and managers.
The department strives to give graduates the fundamental knowledge and the analytical, communication, and problem solving skills necessary to succeed in their chosen careers.
A hallmark of the engineering program is practical experience - acquired through a combination of hands-on laboratories, training cruises, and industry cooperatives - which gives our graduates self confidence, a strong work ethic, and a can-do attitude.
As part of the MMA Academic Division, the Engineering Department is comprised of 24 full time positions; 21 faculty members and three staff assistants; engineering lab technicians.
The Engineering Department is a unique combination of licensed maritime and non-licensed academic faculty and staff who work together to support three academic majors; Marine Engineering, Facilities Engineering and beginning with the class of 2016, Energy Systems Engineering. The U.S. Coast Guard licensed professional maritime faculty and staff also participate in the annual MMA winter sea term. The Engineering Department faculty and staff have a broad range of qualifications including; academic credentials, professional licensing, professional certification, and prior academic, industry, and/or military experience.
To meet all academic course and lab requirements, the Engineering Department is augmented each semester by several well qualified and talented part time faculty and lab instructors. A listing of all current full time and part time faculty and staff is available under the Engineering Directory.
