Massachusetts Maritime Academy - Residency Appeal Process Registrar's Office - Residency Appeal Process

MMA policy is to offer in-state or in-region tuition rates to students who are self-supporting, and who reside in-state or a qualifying regional state through periods of non-enrollment and intend to remain in-state or in-region after graduation.

MMA uses the Federal Financial Aid definition of an independent student as the primary
criterion in determining self-supporting status.  If the student does not meet the
independent student definition, residency status will default to that of the parent(s).

A parent applying for a change of residency may use the same application and must submit
applicable documentation.  Ownership of a home or property in Massachusetts or a qualifying regional state does not necessarily constitute residency.  Residency status is determined by the parent(s)’ permanent residence.  Students or parents must demonstrate residency for at least 12-consecutive months.  Tuition re-classification is not retroactive.
