Academic Resource Center - Assessment & Advising Center
THE ASSESSMENT AND ADVISING CENTER
The Assessment and Advising Center programs focus on assessment testing, life skills workshops, college skills workshops, and advising. Its role is to assess and assist students as they make the transition to Massachusetts Maritime Academy, progress through their academic programs, and enter the workforce.
Academic Advising is available at the Assessment and Advising Center. Two administrative advisers are available Monday through Thursday during the regular academic semesters to assist students with general counseling, including degree audits, progress checks, planning semester coursework, course selection, and general questions about MMA requirements and degree programs. The advisers also interface with the Career Services Office and the Registrar's Office and can therefore assist students in a variety of career and academic areas.*
*Please note: These advisers are not intended to substitute for assigned faculty advisers. They offer supplemental advising and cannot clear students for registration, which only faculty advisers can do.
The skills seminars are scheduled for incoming students during orientation in the fall and spring semesters. These seminars include workshops focused on various college, life, and career skills topics.
Sunday Workshop Series
The Sunday workshop series extends the life skills seminars conducted during orientation week, giving freshmen additional guidance for effectively making the transition to college.
The Accuplacer Examination is required by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education for all students entering public colleges within the Commonwealth. For information on this placement requirement, please visit our Accuplacer Page.
ETS Proficiency Profile Testing
The ETS Proficiency Profile test is administered to incoming freshmen and graduating seniors. This assessment tool allows us to gauge the educational impact of our programs.
