General Statement of Duties: The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Director in development, implementation, and management of campus safety and security programs and services, including emergency management. Additionally, ensuring that day-to-day security, public safety functions, and new initiatives are aligned with the College’s Strategic Plan.
Responsibilities: Establish and monitor appropriate security and emergency procedures along with compliance with local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Assist in supervising Public Safety Officers and other security personnel to ensure duties are performed in conformance with established procedures. Assist in monitoring and evaluating the performance of campus security personnel. Assist with criminal investigations and all reports and documentation for the institution regarding law enforcement. Responsible for maintaining relationships with local, state, federal and other professional law enforcement agencies or departments. Assist with maintaining departmental budget and developing and implementing emergency procedures and guidelines. Promote campus safety awareness. Coordinate with other departments on campus for large events. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and significant professional experience in Public Safety field. Minimum of five years in a supervisory capacity including personnel management and/or conflict management and resolution skills. Ability to research and analyze applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Excellent oral and written communication skills, proficiency with computer applications, knowledge and experience with higher education principles and practices.
Special Requirements: Current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator’s license. Appointee must meet all of the requirements for certification under Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 22C, Section 63 as a Special State Police Officer and be warranted to receive police powers by the Massachusetts State Police Licensing Unit.
Preferred Requirements: Strong background in emergency management, NIMS, and ICS. Understanding of and appreciation for current student issues.
Salary : $50,000-$55,000
