General responsibilities: The newly created position of Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for integrating technology services with other technology-based departments (Technology Services, Simulation Technology and ABS Information Commons) to form one, cohesive IT Division. The new position of Vice President/Chief Information Officer will lead the technology support functions of the college and establish a strategic direction for the future use of emerging technologies. Responsibilities include management of technology services staff of 7+, ABS Information Commons staff of 6+, Simulation staff of 3+, manage network operations (voice and data), IT Help Desk, Data Centers, student computer labs, simulation labs, website administration and support, applications program development, desktop support, information security, and classroom technology. Accountable for faculty and staff training on commonly used technology. Plans and coordinates administrative applications that automate and support business processes and service functions throughout institution. Oversees operation of Ellucian Higher Ed application and its attendant operating modules, associated databases and redundancies. Provides general leadership over the college’s IT infrastructure including innovating future IT technologies while managing current technologies. Maintains partnerships with strategic vendors and repair firms, and seeks outsourcing opportunities when appropriate. Serves as Information Security Officer for the college and is responsible for insuring the security of college systems and maintaining compliance with federal and Massachusetts Data Privacy laws. Oversees college’s technology buying standards, approves procurement, and controls annual IT operating and capital budgets.
Qualifications and requirements: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Management of Technology or related field with 7 years experience in management of IT teams. Strong project management and budget formulation skills required in addition to superior communication skills. Demonstrated success in constructing and executing comprehensive, strategic and operational plans and benchmarks well informed by best practices. Demonstrated success in building, leading, training, and nurturing winning staff within a sophisticated technical operation. High level of aspiration and initiative. Must be a self-starter, team player, and possess the ability to work collaboratively at all levels of our diverse Academy community. Must contribute to a positive work environment in which mutual respect and support are guiding principles. Must be results-oriented with a willingness to occasionally work nights and weekends to achieve goals.
Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate degree in Management of Technology, Computer Science, or a related field with 10 years experience desired. Experience managing organizations utilizing Cisco and Ellucian, proficiency in online education, and familiarity with computer graphics/simulation. Experience with, or comprehensive understanding of, information commons approach to library research and academic technology tools.
Salary: $110,000-$125,000. The Academy offers generous benefits policies and a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
