Massachusetts Maritime Academy - SALUTE TO THE MARITIME PERSON OF THE YEAR! Admissions - SALUTE TO THE MARITIME PERSON OF THE YEAR!

The 19th annual Massachusetts Maritime Academy Salute to the Maritime Person of the Year will take place on 3 April 2013 at the Petroleum Club, Houston, Texas. This year, Massachusetts Maritime Academy is extremely proud to name David Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Noble Corporation, as the Emery Rice Medalist and our 2013 Maritime Person of the Year.

Now in its 122nd year, the Massachusetts Maritime Academy located on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, continues to excel as the nation’s biggest and best maritime academy. With the continued growth of both graduate and undergraduate programs, the Academy provides some of the most qualified seagoing, offshore and shoreside professionals to industry.

Each year, Massachusetts Maritime Academy selects a civilian or military leader with a distinguished career of excellence, innovation and service to the maritime industries. That honoree is presented with the Captain Emery Rice Medal, named for an 1895 Academy graduate and hero of the First World War. Captain Rice was recognized twice by Theodore Roosevelt for his maritime skill and as an example of American courage and fighting spirit.

This important event raises funds for scholarship at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Even as the Academy excels at its mission and continues a steady pace of growth, the Academy and its cadets are not immune to the financial pressures facing students and their families as they seek higher education. Too many families are unable to pay the bills to allow their otherwise qualified son or daughter to attend the Academy. Need based and merit based scholarships are the answer for these families. The Maritime Person of the Year event leads our efforts to address $7.5 million in unmet financial need among Academy cadets every year. Proceeds from ticket sales and event sponsorship all go directly to scholarship.

While the evening honors maritime excellence and high achievement, it remains a terrific party where maritime executives from all over the world gather for an evening of fine dining, fellowship, networking and entertainment.
