Approximately 80 cadets volunteered to assist in the picnic and 2/c Hillary Doucette (Manchester, MA) was the cadet coordinator for the event. The picnic was self-serve on the patio and catered by Chartwells. Children and families enjoyed many activities including pony rides, a fire truck, tactical vehicle on display, face painting, temporary tattoos, and boat rides of the bay. The boat rides were supervised by William Klimm, Director of the Marine Department at MMA.
LCDR Douglas Page stated “It was quite obvious that all the kids had a great time and I could definitely say the same about the cadets. The cadets exemplified everything that is good in them and are a reflection of their upbringing and what the Academy will build upon and reinforce. I never seem to have trouble finding volunteers after the DCF Picnic and for the semester long effort which is the DCF Christmas. It is their simple humanity that shines through.”
