On her way to Fleet Week Boston, the Indonesian tall ship, KRI Dewaruci and her crew spent four delightful days docked at MMA. Listed as a Class A tall ship and the only barquentine
owned and operated by the Indonesian Navy, the Dewaruci is used as a sail-training vessel for naval cadets who embark aboard as goodwill ambassadors.
Unique to Dewaruci, the ships cadets amaze crowds throughout the world as the on-board marching band plays familiar tunes and crew members climb into the rigging, waving to all. MMA cadets, staff and visitors were entertained for the 3-day visit with a special Captains Reception. Indonesian soup, rice, and appetizers were happily served as the crew entertained the crowd with dance routines, songs, and musical numbers.
Dewaruci can next be seen at Boston Navy Week. 2012 Boston Fleet Week is one of 15 selected cities where America’s Navy will “come home” giving area residents an opportunity to meet Sailors and learn about the Navy’s capabilities and relevance to national security.
