Orientation - Welcome Class of 2016The Countdown is On! Orientation for Class of 2016 Starts In:
To the Class of 2016,
Congratulations on your acceptance and decision to attend Massachusetts Maritime Academy. As a graduate myself, I know the challenges that lie ahead of you and can confirm you have made a very good choice for your college education. Massachusetts Maritime Academy is steeped in 121 years of tradition and excellence. Being a member of the Massachusetts Maritime network will open doors for incredible opportunities, but first you need to start your journey.
Orientation is the beginning of that journey. On Saturday, 18 August, more than 400 of you will approach the Academy's doors as individual high school graduates. The 'individual' part will end at those doors, as you will immediately become part of a team, or better yet: a family. Orientation will be challenging. It will test you physically and mentally but upon completion will leave you with a strong feeling of accomplishment.
Remember that this is the first step of your journey and challenges will come up frequently. You will need the right work ethic, mindset and determination to overcome these challenges. The first test of Orientation will be a physical fitness test. I recommend you start preparing by running and doing pushups and situps at home right away. It will make things a lot easier come August.
You will be tested again during the second week to determine your progress. Below are several links to help you prepare for Orientation. Please refer to these links for any questions you may have. Please keep in mind that Orientation Graduation will take place FRIDAY 31 AUGUST AT 2000, immediately following the Marching Competition. Your families will not want to miss it! Enjoy your summer and I will see you 18 August ready to go!
Sincerely,
Samuel H. White, LCDR
