INCOMING STUDENTS

The following scholarship opportunities are available to incoming undergraduate students.  No additional application materials are required; the Admissions Office will use the information that you have already provided to make decisions on scholarship recipients.  Due to the competitiveness of these scholarships, the earlier a student applies for admission, the better the chance of being considered for a merit scholarship.  Invitations for interviews for merit scholarships are usually sent to accepted students in February with interviews and decisions being made in March.

ADMIRAL MAURICE J BRESNAHAN SCHOLARSHIP - This 8 semester scholarship (fall and spring only) is a renewable award in the amount of in-state tuition, room and board.  One scholarship is awarded each year to the top ranking Emery Rice Scholarship Recipient.  This award is renewable provided the student maintains at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average, to be verified at the end of each spring semester.

CAPTAIN EMERY E RICE SCHOLARSHIP - This 8 semester scholarship (fall and spring only) is a renewable, multi-recipient (5) award in the amount of in-state tuition, room and board.  This award is renewable provided the student maintains at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average, to be verified at the end of each spring semester.

PAUL E TSONGAS SCHOLARSHIP - This 8 semester scholarship (fall and spring only) is a renewable, multi-recipient (5) award offered to qualified Massachusetts residents in the amount of tuition and fees.  Recipients must have at least a 3.75 calculated high school grade point average or be ranked in the top 10% of their high school graduating class as well as scored at least 1200 on the math and verbal SAT or scored 26 on the ACT or have received at least 2 grades of B+ or better in an AP class during their senior year of high school.  This 4 year award is renewable provided the student maintains at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average to be verified at the end of each spring semester.

The following scholarship opportunity is available to Massachusetts residents who scored in the top 25% of their MA public high school district on the MCAS taken during their sophomore year in high school.  Award letters are sent directly to the student by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

JOHN AND ABIGAIL ADAMS TUITION WAIVER - funded by MMA this program is awarded by the Massachusetts Department of Education based on the student's MCAS score.  Students must provide a copy of their award letter from the state to the MMA Financial Aid Office, along with filing the FAFSA each year (www.fafsa.ed.gov).  This 8 semester award (fall and spring only) is renewable, provided the student maintains full time enrollment and at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, to be confirmed at the end of each spring semester.

ALL STUDENTS

The MMA Scholarship Committee provdes a number of scholarship opportunities for all currently enrolled students.  Students who will be participating in the winter sea term training cruise have the opportunity to complete an on line sea term scholarship application in October.  Additionally, the online scholarship application process is opened in April for students to apply for internal scholarships for the following academic year.  Notices are sent directly to all students via their MMA email when these opportunities are available.

Students are encouraged to check the Financial Aid News section of the Financial Aid web page for updates regarding outside scholarship opportunities.  When the MMA aid office receives notices from outside agencies, we will post information on our web site for all students to access.
