Nathaniel Philbrick is the bestselling author of more than half-a-dozen works of American history, including In the Heart of the Sea, winner of the 2000 National Book Award; Sea of Glory, winner of the Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt Naval History Prize; Mayflower, a finalist for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize in history. A lifelong sailor, he lives on Nantucket Island and is the founding director of the Egan Maritime Institute. In 2009, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters, Honoris Causa, by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
