The 1891 Legacy Society was created in 2001 to recognize all those who have established planned gift commitments of any kind for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy or Foundation. Just as the Academy’s founders in 1891 created a legacy that has benefited generations of MMA cadets since then, so do today’s alumni and friends create legacies for future generations of cadets.
The 1891 Society also provides opportunities for alumni and friends to enhance the Academy and the Regiment through mutually beneficial estate plans. Commitments made through wills, life income gifts, retained life estates, and retirement plans help our friends support today’s cadets at much higher levels than might otherwise be possible. Planned gift commitments often also create favorable tax consequences for donors and can create new sources of income for you or members of your family.
Your generosity will ensure that MMA’s student body is defined by its potential rather than its wealth.
