Admissions - Honoring Alumni as MMA Turns 119 Years Young
This past spring, recent alumni from each of the six majors were honored at MMA’s 119th Birthday Celebration. After presenting a brief history of MMA, its growth from ships and sail to modern day technologies, Admiral Gurnon addressed what MMA does best: cultivate students to excel and produce graduates who become industry leaders.
Department heads then recognized recent graduates who have become both leaders and mentors in their fields. At the ceremony, each department head read a citation for each honoree prior to their presentation of a plaque applauding dedication to the Academy and their commitment to industry.

John Bentley ’05 – International Maritime Business
Kathleen Knifong ’87 – Marine Transportation
CDR Timothy Cooper ’92 – Naval Science
