Pollution Compliance for Seafarers Program

Welcome to Massachusetts Maritime Academy's Pollution Compliance for Seafarers Program.

PLEASE NOTE: Admissions are complete for this program. All seats have been filled for the first cohort. We continue to accept applications for the second cohort (2009) and for seats that become available during the ongoing classes.

Initial communication with your professor: You will receive an initial e-mail message from your instructor approximately one week before the course commences.

This program, offered through the Department of Marine Safety and Environmental Protection, is designed to raise awareness of pollution concerns affecting the maritime industry by making courses easily accessible to professional mariners. Offered entirely online, the program consists of five, credit-bearing college courses leading to a “Certificate of Pollution Compliance for Seafarers.”

For the first two years of the program (ending Oct 1, 2010), tuition is absolutely free to qualified maritime professionals, paid for by a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Seafarer’s Education Fund. Working closely with the United States Coast Guard, the Foundation has made these funds available with the express purpose of raising environmental awareness in an industry whose ability to comply with environmental regulations is vital to the future health of the world’s oceans.
