10/19/09 Hot Hobby!
...and part time passion for Rob Munstis, Whitman-Hanson Regional High, '97 and MMA, '01. He turned his Marine Science and Environmental Protection degree into something unique indeed. Today he is a Marketing Manager for a Weymouth, MA manufacturing company and, in his spare time, author of a well known sports blog [Red Sox], The Bottom Line.
A sports nut from birth, Munstis excelled at both track and soccer during high school and college. "After graduating from MMA, I was offered a rare opportunity to work at the NBA offices in New York. This was really the beginning of my marketing career and I have worked in the field ever since. Today, as a marketing manager, I use creative skills to coordinate trade show events, create marketing materials and manage advertising campaigns," Munstis reported. That's his full time job. And then there's that hobby! "I also started my own business," he continued. "...writing The Bottom Line blog" (www.bottomlinesox.com).
The Bottom Line offers daily analysis on the Boston Red Sox and was regularly featured on Comcast Sports Net during the baseball season. He started the blog three years ago on Google and it was picked up by the Most Valuable Network last year. Because of its popularity, he was able to "pitch in" during the Jimmy Fund Telethon and raise $500 for the charity. He hopes to make this an annual event. Munstis is also busy developing Bottom Line apparel that will include exclusive Boston sports t-shirts.
"The Academy helped me hone many of the business skills I use every day. As Student Government President, I developed a strong organizational and management style while coordinating events and managing the SGA budget. Turning the Fantail (cadet lounge) from just another place to grab a soda, to a weekly "hot spot", enabled me to cultivate the same entrepreneurial drive I use to create The Bottom Line. The unique lifestyle of an MMA cadet helped me develop strong people skills and the ability to adapt to different environments and challenges," Munstis reported. The Bottom Line - a home run for all!
